SJSU ME 195a Full Scale Controls Team Individual Blog - Week of 11/14

This week we progressed on making our sensors and motors work. In terms of motors, Justin received his small brushless dc motor to practice on and was able to make it work and control the speed of the motor with a potentiometer. In terms of sensors, Alan and I were able to make our hall effect sensor work, an ultrasonic sensor work, and our rotary encoder to work. We tried to make the hall effect sensor talk with the rotary encoder but we couldn't make it work. Over the weekend and this following week, the team is going to meet to work on the program and delegate some tasks for thanksgiving break so that we are prepared for our last presentation.

We revised our project proposal and were able to nail down our goals for the year, which were accepted by Dan Espinosa and Professor Furman. After our meeting with Dan, we were able to take apart the controls system on the full-scale bogie and see exactly what last year's control team created. The system as a whole was messy and poorly constructed, so the group decided that another main goal was to make the control system aesthetically pleasing as well as functional. The group also got a confidence boost as the motor team decided that we would have 4 hub motors on the full-scale bogie, and that they would be sizing and building it. SJSU ME 195b Full Scale Controls Team Individual Blog - Week of 4/17

Alex Krause SJSU ME 195b Full Scale Controls Team Individual Blog - Week of 4/17 This past week, the team continued to work on making the individual electrical components work before we combine them all together into our system. Justin was able to make the motor work completely forwards and backwards. Alan and I have been working on making the linear actuator work with an H-Bridge and relay but we are having trouble making the circuit work. Danny is coming in this week and we will hopefully be able to ask him what is wrong and how to fix it. Lastly, we divided the parts of our final report so we can start on that earlier rather than later.

SJSU ME 195a Full Scale Controls Team Individual Blog - Week of 8/29 & 9/5

This individual post is covering the first two weeks of progress for this project. I had issues uploading blogs which is why I was unable to post last weeks, individual blog. 8/29/2018: Today's class was focused on introducing the group to the project and dividing everyone into their designated groups. First, we were given a background about the status of the project as a whole, and then we were given our assigned teams. I was assigned to the full-scale bogie team. The full-scale bogie team and full-scale guideway teams grouped together and divided into 5 sub-teams. 1. Guideway Team 2. Controls Team 3. Drivetrain 4. Bogie 5. Wayside Power I elected to be a part of the controls team.
