SJSU ME 195a Full Scale Controls Team Individual Blog - Week of 10/17

Our time in class was cut short due to the campus meeting all mechanical engineering senior project classes had to attend. During our short amount of time, we mainly tried to figure out what we needed to talk about during our presentation #2 for next week. I talked with Dr. Furman about the different aspects of the controls project and what the group should be focusing on. The following are the main aspects that the controls group will be working on for the upcoming presentation:
  1. Block Diagram
  2. State Machine diagram
  3. Update Justin's wiring diagram
  4. System inputs & outputs
    1. motor/sensor signals
    2. voltage/current
  5. Wireless controller
    1. display speed, position, error & path
    2. Kill Switch to cut power to the whole system
    3. Switch to engage e-brake
  6. Braking and stopping
    1. if there is a short or any malfunction, turn on emergency brakes to stop and kill power to the whole system
  7. How much voltage we need for all the components?
  8. Charging the Ultra-capacitors
  9. Plans for using the linear actuators
  10. How to supply voltage to the motors?
  11. Motor controllers
  12. Choosing the right sensors
Our functional specifications and requirements for the project are about 90% there. We know the system that we are going to be building, we just need to complete the research to understand how to effectively build the entire system and integrate all the parts in the correct manner.
